Sustainable Development Management

The Bank recognizes the importance of its impact on the economy, environment, and society to ensure sustainable development in the long term. Within the framework of implementing this principle, the Bank has a Sustainable Development Policy (hereinafter – the Policy) in place. The Bank's Policy is built on the basis of international standards of the UN Global Compact, the UN Principles for Responsible Investment, the AA 1000 Series of Standards, etc., and defines the fundamental norms, principles, rules, and approaches to sustainable development management. The full version of the Policy can be found on the Bank's official website hcsbk.kz under the "Sustainable Development / ESG Policies" section.

Sustainable development at the Bank consists of three components: economic, environmental, and social.

The economic component focuses on ensuring the sustainable and efficient operation of the Bank, increasing investment attractiveness, optimizing processes and expenses, developing innovation, creating new jobs, and improving employee qualifications.

The environmental component is aimed at minimizing environmental impact, rationally using resources, reducing energy and water consumption, and implementing "green" practices.

The social component includes compliance with labor rights, ensuring equal opportunities and gender equality, occupational safety, personnel development, and the implementation of internal and external social programs.

The Bank ensures the alignment of its economic, environmental, and social goals for sustainable development in the long term.

The management of this policy includes a clear distribution of responsibility among the Bank's management levels, the integration of sustainable development principles into strategic planning and operations, emphasizing the Bank's commitment to a comprehensive approach to managing impacts on society and the environment.

The Bank implements its environmental and social policy through key institutional policies, including the Sustainable Development Policy, Personnel Policy, Code of Business Ethics, Corporate Governance Code, Regulation on Environmental Policy, etc., which ensure compliance with relevant regulatory laws, rules, and partner requirements.

In 2025, a number of key internal regulatory documents governing sustainable development activities were developed and updated at the Bank. The Bank's internal documents on sustainable development cover all employees. Employees receive information about these documents through the existing notification system, as well as upon employment. External stakeholders have access to these documents on the Bank's official website hcsbk.kz under the "Sustainable Development / ESG Policies" section.

In order to bring information on sustainable development to the attention of stakeholders, the Bank's website contains a separate section dedicated to this area of activity. In certain cases, when concluding contracts, stakeholders are provided with individual information on the relevant norms and rules.

Control and reporting are carried out through annual sustainable development reports, the integration of KPIs into the employee motivation system, regular risk analysis, and monitoring of compliance with international information disclosure standards. The Bank publishes information on its initiatives and results on the corporate website, in the annual report, and in the sustainable development report, ensuring openness and transparency of its activities.

In June 2025, the Bank's Board of Directors approved the Sustainable Development Strategy until 2030. As a national development institution, the Bank plays a key role in shaping a sustainable financial system in Kazakhstan and improving the quality of life of citizens by providing access to decent and affordable housing. Being a key participant in the housing construction savings system in the country, the Bank views sustainable development as an integral part of its mission – to strengthen the feeling of the Homeland by providing families with their own housing and increasing long-term well-being.

The Sustainable Development Strategy until 2030 establishes the integration of ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) principles into all areas of the Bank's activity – from product development to internal culture and external reporting. The implementation of the Strategy is aimed at contributing to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and supporting the socio-economic progress of Kazakhstan.
