Implementation of Environmental Projects
Since early 2023, the Bank has been implementing Kazakhstan’s first Green Mortgage program for purchasing apartments in energy-efficient residential complexes built to green standards, supporting the national strategy to promote environmentally friendly housing. The program is aimed at protecting public health and the environment.
The key condition of the program is that the purchased housing must comply with a green standard certified under one of the systems operating in Kazakhstan (OMIR, GOST R, BREEAM, LEED), regardless of the certification level.
This means that developers use environmentally friendly and safe materials in construction, develop and landscape the surrounding areas, ensure well-planned layouts, provide air temperature control within apartments, and ensure access to public transport, among other criteria.
In 2024, the Bank expanded its cooperation with developers who comply with environmental construction standards. A total of 25 memorandums of understanding were signed with key players in the construction sector.
The Bank also introduced preferential loan rates for socially vulnerable groups and military personnel when purchasing or purchasing and renovating homes in properties certified at a level of at least “Gold.” This initiative contributes to reducing the environmental footprint and supporting social well-being, fostering a sustainable future for the Bank’s customers and society at large.
In 2024, the Bank successfully deployed KZT 18.6 billion from its own funds, which represents 94 % of the planned KZT 19.8 billion. As a result, in 2024, the Bank issued mortgage loans to 763 customers under this program, totaling KZT 18.6 billion. Since the launch of the green mortgage initiative, a total of 1,255 loans have been issued, amounting to KZT 31.4 billion. As of 1 January 2025, the green mortgage portfolio amounted to KZT 30.7 billion, representing 0.9 % of the Bank’s total loan portfolio.
